Sam retired in 1994 as an Air Force Colonel with over 28 years service culminating his career as the Base (Support Group) Commander for four years at Luke Air Force Base, AZ. Sam recently retired from The Arizona Republic as the Director of Services.

Sam is currently a member of 100 Club, Leadership West, Arizona State University – West Provost Club, Phoenix Downtown Partnership-Operations Committee, ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus Business Advisory Council, Fighter Country Partnership (Board of Directors) and Veterans Medical Leadership Council (President).

Sam is a graduate of San Jose State University in Aeronautics and has an MBA from the University of Alaska. Arriving in Arizona in 1988, he and his wife (Brenda) have a son and a daughter and currently live in Glendale, AZ.
